DRAFTING (SEM)
1 SEMESTER -- 1/2 CREDIT

Drafting (SEM) is an introduction to the principles and procedures of tools, materials, equipment, techniques, freehand sketching, projections, object position, single views, mutli-views, perspectives, orthographic, isometric, oblique, and introduction to computer drafting.  Course work includes three-view drawing, isometric drawing, oblique drawing, and architectural drawing.   All drawings will be completed on the drafting board, and after being introduced to CAD( Computer-Aided-Drafting), will be completed on the computer.  Throughout the semester the students will complete 45-50 drawings.

This course will help students become more proficient in the higher level drafting and CAD classes, some of which are eligible for dual credit with John A. Logan College.  The series of drafting classes offered at Herrin will enable the student to further their education, or seek employment in the fields of architecture, aerospace, graphic designer, urban designer, city planner, civil engineer, construction engineer, electrical engineer, industrial engineer, mechanical engineer, structural engineer, plus many technical fields which may only require 2 years of college.

There are no prerequisites for this class.  Since we work with inches and feet, or portions of inches and feet, a good understanding of a ruler is a plus.  Everyday (Elementary) mathematical skills will be used on daily work assignments.  Initial set of drafting tools will be provided.  Broken or lost tools may be purchased.  Students must provide a folder to store drawings and quizzes.  Folders will be collected and graded.  Test/quizzes will be given (occasionally) in the form of questions and answers or by preparing a drawing.  Unless exempt, each student will take a semester/final exam.

Semester work includes:

  1. (10) Three-view drawings on board
  2. Intro to CAD
    (10) Three-view drawings on CAD
  3. (10)Isometric/Oblique drawings on board.
     
  1. (10) Isometric/oblique drawings on CAD
  2. Architectural/cabin elevations and floor plans on board.
  3. Architectural/cabin elevations and floor plans on CAD

--Semester coursework may change due to time constraints, student interests, or any reason deemed necessary by the administration or instructor.
